Afridar

In the days after the creation of the State of Israel, South African Jewry approached the new Israeli government about building a new city. The result was the city of Afridar, which merged with Migdal area to become the modern city of Ashkelon.

Of all the neighborhoods in Ashkelon, Afridar stands out as a unique community and the most in demand. If you take a walk through the neighborhood, it will not take long to understand why there is such demand for Afridar.

Afridar – The Jewel of Ashkelon

Afridar (AFRI + DAR = AFRIca + AmiDAR) was founded as an Anglo community in 1951 by the Zionist Federation of South Africa. The community was built with a rural flavor, predominantly single-family homes with laneways connecting them and lots of green spaces. Because of its proximity to the beach (five minutes from HaTayasim), its rustic feeling and very few apartment towers, it is the most sought-after neighborhood in the city. The city has kept many of the original bylaws, ensuring that the neighborhood maintains that special feel for years to come.

Finding a residence in Afridar can be a challenge because it is so much in demand.
