Before you pack your beach chair and put on your bathing suit, it might be a good idea to check with the people on the famous Ashkelon Community WhatsApp Group to see what the flag is at the beach.

Almost every home with a sea view has a pair of binoculars so the residents can look down at the lifeguard building to see the sea conditions. 

A common question from Ashkelon residents is “What color is the flag at the beach right now?” The system of flags is meant to guide people as to the conditions in the water. At all times, follow the instructions of the life guards and wear sun screen!

Flag	Condition
	Generally calm seas, safe for swimming.
	Rough seas, could be under-tow or rip tides. Exercise caution and swim in designated areas only.
	Dangerous conditions – Heavy waves, under-tow and dangerous rip tides. Just get your toes wet and generally stay out of the water.
	Stinging jellyfish (Medusas in Hebrew) are in town. Exercise extreme caution. The sting is not fun.
