The Not So Secret Information Available to Buyers in Ashkelon
When my wife and I moved to Ashkelon, we were surprised that it was not on the radar screens of most English speakers. Perhaps they never visited the city while on a gap year program or accidentally confused it with Ashdod, which is about 20 minutes away. I decided to change that and let people know about our amazing city.
Since moving to Ashkelon almost five years ago, I receive many calls from people who are interested in moving here. Some people are attracted to the idea of living near the sea, while other like the idea of living in a seaside community and not paying the prices of some other cities.
One day, I received a call from a couple, who spoke with an agent about buying a specific apartment in Ashkelon. I suggested that they use a local agent (I was not a real estate agent at the time), but they were insistent on using an agent from outside the city. I answered the questions and explained why I believe Ashkelon is an amazing community for English speakers. The question came up about the view they would have from the apartment they were considering, which was on a low floor. They thought that they would have a clear view of the sea. I had to break it to them that not only was there an existing building in front of this apartment, there might be plans to expand the building. The immediate response was: “Oh, we really need a local agent.”
The English speaking community has grown a lot since we first came to Ashkelon and I became a licensed real estate agent. I am still available for calls with people who are thinking about Ashkelon as a place to live or as an investment. And remember, it is not Ashdod!
